How to get $29.99 per month and no initiation fee at L.A. Fitness

-----
Update on this topic: Want a deal on joining L.A. Fitness? Call Paul
-----
For about two and a half years, people have come to my blog to get codes they can use to get a membership at L.A. Fitness without paying a initiation fee.

Unfortunately, L.A. Fitness no longer offers those codes. But an anonymous reader on this site sent in this idea:

Here is what I did which worked. Call them at (949)255-8100 and ask to talk to sales. Tell them you want to join and they will pitch you on the $29.99 per month with the $99 initiation fee. Ask them if they can waive the fee, they will say yes for $39.99 per month with no initial fee. Tell them you are ready to join today if they offer you $29.99 per month and no initiation fee or you are not going to join and ask them to text you the code. This worked for me. Time to hit the gym!

Great suggestion! Not only do you save money, but you don't have to deal with the manipulative salespeople at the gym. You save time, too; it just takes a few minutes on the phone.

    3. I called the number you gave and they transferred me to an office in Texas? I spoke to Mike Free, General Manager, and he gave me the $29.00 and waived the initiation fee. In addition, I got him to waive another membership/family initiation fee and charged me only $24.00 approximately for the 2nd person. The guy was awesome! He opened my membership in Texas but then is transferring it to Seattle as of Monday. But, we were still able to work out today, Saturday in Renton, WA. Thanks for the number:). Awe some!

    5. JUST SIMPLY CALL MR. PAUL at 786-312-8299. He doesn't play number games. He cuts to the chase and give you a lowest membership fee with NO initiation fee. This guy is so nice, honest and down to earth! Even after I signed up with him, he still cared enough to give me good advice about how to work out effeciently.
It doesn't matter where / which state you live in. He can sign up anybody! And No transfering process or nothing!

    6. Mr Paul did nothing more than a regular sales person. Only offered the options that the club has. He only offered $99 initiation and $29.95 a month or $0 initiation but $39.95 a month. He did not try to help me when I asked about $0 down and $29.99 a month he said no way to do it unless my employer was contracted with LA fitness. I prob will never join. Will go somewhere less commission based.

    7. I spoke with Paul as well, he did not offer any slack on the initiation fee and even offered a year contract that ended up costing me more than $40 a month. He tried to sell me on the Signature clubs that still ended up even more over priced. I agree with Sandra, I am going somewhere else where they are not just trying to get money in their individual pockets from commission.

  2. Sounded great but didn't work , They say the number is for the billing department and said that they do not have a sales office there. Suggested that I call a local gym instead. Upon calling local gym, they offered to wave $50 off fee but that's not what we came here for is it!!! ... Thanks for your Blog and will be back to hopefully find a code.

  3. I just followed the blog and was going to sign up for me and my son. At first they would not do it, but then they offered to waive one of the fees. I told them I was ready to sign up today for both, either both of us without the fees or neither of us would join. They agreed and we both were signed up with just first and last months payment up front and no fees.

  4. Just an FYI for New York people. I just called corporate. They told me that New York is much more to run these facilities so the price is as the General Manager told me. There is no getting around it if you live in New York....yet another great perk of living here :-/

  8. So I called the number, and this is actually a gym located in California. The gentlemen I spoke to offered me 29.99 a month with 50 dollar initiation fee. However I am located in NY, and he said its ok, I can sign up over the phone and can go to my local club to pick up the pass and I can use it at any LA fitness. What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone done this?

    1. I just did this and hope its legit I did it yesterday and the guy told me it was simple he could change myclub in 7 clicks and so far nothing has changed still showing CA location.

  9. So my church is getting ready to open up a fitness center in Dec. I just enrolled in membership $29.99 mth and they waived the initiation fee. However my church is about 20-30 mins away I thought do I really want to drive that far everyday just to work out. There is LA fitness 2 mins away from me that has everything my church fitness center will have except rock climbing wall which I thought LA Fitness would be more expensive until doing my research. After reading this I figured I can try to get the same deal that my church is offering.

So I just called the number and I was transferred to a location within my state I'm guessing because of my phone number. The lady I spoke with is Kay she was wonderful. Gave me $29.99mth no contract, no enrollment fee, any location I want to go to, and all I have to do is pay for 1st and last mth $59.98. She processed everything over the phone I just had to scan and email her back the paper work.

Anyone in the Atl area who need to speak to her directly Kay 678-995-3430

    2. Called Kay, she's able to do first/last at $39/mo and the rest at $29 no initiation, which is equivalent to a $20 initiation fee and is still a good deal.

I was able to dig up an email from January 2014 from LA Fitness asking me to come back at $29/mo $0 initiation, so I was able to avoid the extra $20 as well.

    3. worked for me too! 29.99/month no fee!

    4. I tried that phone number for Kay and it doesn't appear to be working anymore. I ended up calling the gym closest to my house and spoke with the manager about a membership for my boyfriend and I. He initially offered $29.99 for me, $24.99 for him and to cut the initiation fee in half to $49.99. I told him other gyms nearby have offered to waive the initiation fee and if he would be willing to work with me. He said if I could come in today he would wave the fee. Ended up with 2 memberships for $54.99 paying for the first and last month upfront and no initiation fee!

  10. Always go to a gym to sign up at the end of any month. Just like any business, they need to reach their quota for membership signups. All sales people are under the gun to generate their numbers. They know the lowest rates they can give and will be more than happy to give them to you because they just want to keep their job and could care less about the corporation. I used to work at a gym so just giving a heads up. No need to worry about finding codes and all this nonsense, just go in on the last day of the month. Cheers.

  11. Thanks I did the below and it worked.

Tell them you want to join and they will pitch you on the $29.99 per month with the $99 initiation fee. Ask them if they can waive the fee, they will say yes for $39.99 per month with no initial fee. Tell them you are ready to join today if they offer you $29.99 per month and no initiation fee .

  12. I just contacted a few LA clubs and for very basic sole memberships, (1 club only), they have a nation wide open house for sign ups today and tomorrow for $29/month with no fees. You only need to pay 2 months.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I pay $295. 00 per year in Florida. I keep renewing and hoping for better rate, but now feel better because they won't budge lower. I can go to any L.A. Fitness. I know people pay different rates. Good luck!

  14. I walked in to a gym near me. Told the sales that I wanted to take a tour. And YES, he gave me a deal for $29.99 per month with the $99 initiation fee. I told him that i will join right away if he waived the fee, or I'll just leave the gym. He closed it at $29.99 per month with $0 initiation fee, access to all other non-signature locations, an one-hour training, and a towel. No contract, but I need to inform them 2 months in advance if i were to cancel my service.

  17. I just went to an LA Fitness in Pennsylvania and they quoted me 247.00 initiation fee and 19.95 a month. Or I could pay the entire amount of 441.00 for the entire year upfront, to save money? My husband and I went together, and even asked if they give married couple discounts, and the answer was no, so in total we would pay 882.00 for both of us. Did something change in 2014?

  20. Sadly during the first day of my two week trial I denied the $0 initiation fee and the manager of a phila location did so much pressuring me to purchase that day it scared me off. All I wanted was to test the gym out, I never ever even stepped foot into a gym prior. EVERYONE besides the manager was so welcoming and daily I attend for 3 hrs starting at 6:30 am. I've made great workout buddies , done yoga and more. Basically found a new outlet to release negative energy and get fit all in one. Fast forward to today (trials up) and now the same sales rep who was originally so welcoming won't offer no rate under 40 and a high invitation fee and then is nonchalant and in willing to negotiate and I'm purchasing 2 memberships. Ughhhh I'll try calling but it really sucks they don't do family plans or better deals when planet fitness is 10 bucks a month. What's a gal to do ?.

  21. I used to work for la fitness. The truth is that neither the sales team nor the manager has the ability to waive an initiation fee. Corporate will occasionally put a 0 initiation program in the system, but they do not tell the sales department ahead of time and NEVER actually allow the rate to be extended no matter what the circumstances are. So if a salesman offers it to you as "today only" incentive he's likely telling the truth.

    1. I have to disagree on this. I am looking to join LA Fitness again. But previously when I was a member, my daughter tried to sign up under me but did not want to pay the initiation fee. He gave her a two week pass and told her to use that for now because in a week and a half they were having a $0 initiation fee. He only asked that she write a post dated check. I won't post the location as I am sure this is not common practice and probably not even allowed. But if you say the sales team does not know when this is happening the he obviously has someone in cooperate with inside knowledge.

    1. Updating my previous comment, they will not waive the initiation fee for me, but in turn offered me to pay upfront for 18 months at $30 per month. Then have the option to pay $249 for each subsequent year. That's actually a pretty smart pricing strategy, but from a consumer point of view I am not buying it. I will hold out until they give me the deal I want.

  26. Called this number, followed instructions.

Got $29 monthly, plus $29 initiation. Think it was my fault though, I messed up, he asked me what I could do and I was like, I can do 30 monthly and the same for initiation? And he's like SURE!

So yeah, you can probably do no initiation if you dont suck at haggling like me

I failed at haggling cause I for some weird reason feel a need to be a good guy to LA Fitness(Im an idiot). Dont give any space to these guys. Very nicely tell them no thanks when they offer you something you dont like and ask for the initiation to get waived

  30. This is Anonymous June 10-- what's funny is this: last summer (here's that story), my computer was freezing and wouldn't let me take advantage of the "no initiation fee" promo from home, so I went into my local gym all dressed up for a workout and credit card in hand. When I got there, the manager said he didn't have the power, blah, blah, blah. The only deal he could give me was $39 with no fee. I said that I would walk for that 10 bucks, he said, "OK," and I walked out. When I got home, I emailed corporate and told them I was allowed to walk over the 10 bucks, and they just told me to try a different web browser. I did, and I got the promo. I was just dumbfounded that the manager let me walk out and go home over 10 bucks.

  40. Does anyone in New York State know of a "Kay" type equivalent? I've called about five times and the best they can give me is , as stated above, "$35 a month / no initiation" or "$99 initiation / $29.99 a month with all clubs included" and it's just too much! I even told them that I was a student and "would just settle for the gym at my school instead of paying that much money" and they just let go! LA Fitness certainly isn't the best gym on the planet, but their sauna is a lifesaver on winter days and I love that they have a spinning room!

  63. Ok everyone heres the deal. Kay got fired rightfuly so. Corporation pay large amounts of money to be able to offer their employees a corporate discount of $0 enrollment $29.95 a month all club access nationwide with the exception of signature clubs. Kay clearly had access to the voucher codes from a sponsorship she probably closed. By using these codes for everyone on this blog and who ever else she may have, she is abusing the system, cheating the corporations that pay for it, and the company. Also stop calling the 949 corporate number. Its for member services not sales. Phone deals are illeagal so if caught the membership is canceled and not refunded an employees are subject to termination! The way the memberships are set up is the more you put down up front the lower your monthly cost is. Also paying annualy versus monthly is always the better value. Google search gymsme.com for some great info. You sometimes may get 0/29.95 at the end of the month in club but is ALWAYS single club unless its an illeagal corporate rate as explained above.

    1. That is NOT TRUE. I just signed up for $29.95 and $0 initiation fee, single state (not single club). It's a pretty great deal. SA are desperate to get a commission so I do not advise anybody going to sign up at the beginning of the month - then you will never get a good deal. Go at the end of the month - you might get better deal, for sure.
Also, once you sign up - PLEASE CREATE YOR ONLINE ACCOUNT with your email address. SA set up your emails wrong (sometimes) so you will never receive the promotion I get. So once you sign up online, and if you ever cancel your account, wait until the will send you special promotion "WE WANT YOU BACK - $29.95 and $0 down. BEST DEAL EVER.

  64. I always open accounts for $29.99 and $0 initiation fee. It's very easy. Just gotta wait for special either in e-mail or sometimes they offer it at the end of the month. I would NEVER pay $100 initiation fee.

  65. In addition, this is the information of the gentleman that was very professional and because we signed up pronto...he offered the great price with no initiation fee over the weekend. Via phone, he is in Texas and we are in Seattle.

His name is Mike Free, and he is a general manager. I explained to him that I got their number from a friend. And he was not a terrible, overly acting, sales person per say. Just a polite person.

OR $50 initiation fee with 25 a month + 19 add on :) It was perfect and the best deal yet offered. I didnt ask him for anything because I was done arguing with the first sales person. :) I made my choice for 50 initiation fee + 25 and 19 a month :)

  70. the $0 initiation and $29.95 per month is only a corporate rate , you can always call to find out if your company is in their system.
I lived in Florida i went in to one of the locations to sign up i was offered the 99/29 a month which is not a bad rate for everything they offer, while i engaged in a conversation with the sales person i told him where i worked he looked on his system and told me i was elegible to do a corporate rate i was very surprise this young man didnt wanted to sell me the higher rate since i learned they only care about commission, the gentleman told me is the right thing to do and that the best way to pay him was with referrals and since then i've send at least 5 people to him and he always gives them the best rate available ,he even tells them to wait to certain day to get the best deal i like his sincerity and if this helps here is his number 7863128299 His name is Paul he is the General Manager. Also my nephew lives in Nj and he was able to do a membership for him too so he can probably help to any state.

JUST SIMPLY CALL MR. PAUL at 786-312-8299. He doesn't play number games. He cuts to the chase and give you a lowest membership fee with NO initiation fee. 76. Saw a sign near my LA Fitness stating 0 Down today only... I go oh perfect I been waiting for this. I go inside and they have me speak with some Hondurian guy who looked like he didn't feel like working at all. He gave me this whole thing about the 0 down was only for 34.99 membership and I'd have to pay 30 bucks if I wanted the $30 a month one. I told him thanks but no thanks. Yeah it was only 30 dollars but that's still money to be saved. Honestly if I still lived closer to Miami Lakes I'd go buy the Costco 24 Hour Fitness membership that equates to 15 dollars a month.

He has corporate vouchers, that he's given to me and a few friends, I'll post his number if you want to text. Some a nationwide and some statewide I think? Worth a shot. 7068197315

  82. I went to the website and signed up for a free Guest pass. Within 24 hours they sent me an email offering me zero initiation fee with $34.95 per month (and you have to pay 2 months up front so its $64.90 total needed to sign up) and then payments of $34.95.

This is in Miami, FL Just wanted to advise you guys that this is a "standard deal" so you should be able to get even better with a little haggling.

I will be going to the gym today for my "free guest pass" workout" and will see the best thing they pitch me.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I have worked for L.A. fitness previously. There is no way to get a good deal unless you know someone who can get you corporate vouchers. There is literally no pull for any of the sales people, they go through and select the rate you want. You can change the pricing. So all of you that think"negotiating" will get you a better deal have absolutely no idea how it works. Stop trying to haggle over 5 dollars a month. If you're worried about 5 dollars you have bigger issues.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That last person that commented was a shill that works for LA Fitness trying to dissuade us from saving money, the salespeople want to sign you up at full price with the $99 initiation fee because that way they get a bigger commision.

I wouldnt be suprised to learn that the entire $99 goes to the salesperson that manages to find a sucker that agrees to the $99 initiation fee.

Nobody should settle for ANYTHING worse than this deal: No initiation fee, $35 per month and ability to use any club inside your state.

Just do as I said, go to the website and request a free guest pass and within 24 hours they will email you the promotion I just said.

    ReplyDelete
  85. If you think you're getting a "great deal" because you didn't pay an initiation then again you have bigger problems. The more you put down the cheaper your monthly is. The average person has a memberships for 27 months. Why pay 35 a month instead of putting 100 down and dropping the monthly to 25 a month? After the 10th month you save that 10 every month. It's not that difficult. But then again when you're searching the internet for zero initiation fee, so that may not make sense to you.

  86. Also only 4 states do not have a sales tax, LA Fitness only operates in one of them. So sign up over the phone if you're able to. It looks like the Tualatin, OR club is the newest one in that area. They probably have the highest goal. Employees more inclined to do that. Think outside the box.

    1. In response to the sarcasm about "great deal"

75% of people quit the gym within 4 months so putting a huge down payment does not benefit the majority. That is the main reason that gyms want an initiation fee is because they know that most will drop out so they want as much cash as they can scoop up before people drop out.

THe entire gym industry operates on the premise that 80% of its members come one time per week or less.

If every member showed up at the same time on Wednesday at 10am they would be in violation of the fire code with over 600 people in the gym.

So as I said, it does not behoove most people to pay a large down payment.

Also we never know when we will get a new job or move to a different city so why "drop you anchor" in any one gym when the future is so uncertain?

You are a SHILL that works for LA Fitness, trying to trick people to pay the large initiation fee, get out of here you corporate fat-cat

      Delete
  88. I'm not taking sides however I've worked in the industry myself and your numbers are inaccurate. Most people do stay much longer than four months. Either way initiation fee or not. LA is cheaper than most. Good luck out there.

    1. I dont know where you live but we have Planet Fitness and Youfit all over the place here for $10 a month so $35 is actually the MOST EXPENSIVE gym in my neighborhood (Miami, FL)

      Delete
    2. The people may "stay" as far as getting their credit card charged every month but they dont actually COME IN and WORKOUT is what I mean. Just look around your own gym if you go on the same day/same time every week and notice how many familiar faces you see

      Delete
    3. Oh I understand, but that's not what you said earlier. Most people continue to pay their memberships for a long time even when they never use it. So at least pay the least monthly possible, especially if you plan to never use it.

Also, planet fitness and isn't comparable to LA fitness in my opinion. No kids club, saunas, classes, pool, hot tub, racquetball or basketball. So yes, you get what you pay for. Also, annual fees and long term commitment with planet fitness.

  89. Dean,

Well since I am a skinny male looking to bulk up I really have no option except LAFitness or a mom n pop gym 4 blocks away for $20 per month but when I went to the Mom and Pop gym the leather on the on the hamstring curl machine was cracked and peeling (as well as others) and the assisted dip/pushup machine was missing and when I asked about it they said some fool had broekn it and the owners declined to get a new one.

SO that was enough for me to hear because I need that assisted machine in particular because "no dips or pull-ups" is a huge hole in my regimen.

ALso there was no fitness barbies or cadio bunnies to be found, apparently they all go to LA Fitness so "color me outta here"

  90. Im probably gonna just bite the bullet on the $35 per month with no initiation fee. I waited to see if they would send me a second email with a better offer but now I have no choice because tomorrow is legs day and I need a squat rack (and all they have at planet fitness is the stupid smith machine squats)

  98. It's REALLY quite sad how much time and effort you guys spend on getting a rate that doesn't exist. You talk about the sales people trying to get commission, rightfully so. They don't make very much and commission is the only thing that can take them above the minimum wage level. I'm sure all of you have jobs for you to even be considering joining LA Fitness. Would you want someone to coming to your work and taking food out of your mouth? You talk about these corporate fat cats but all you're talking about are some 20 something year old kids just trying to do what they love and work in the gym. All of you complaining about 0 initiation fee are probably the same people that when you order delivery don't tip the driver because they charged you a $2.25 delivery fee. Stop being so cheap even if you were to get the rate that you're talking about it is subject to cancellation due to the policies set forth in the corporate programs. You people make me sick, let me save a dollar. I understand the desire to save a buck but speaking negatively about these individuals that are trying to just get by because they're trying to sell you a membership that they have to sell you is wrong. Look in the mirror, that's the zero right there. I hope all of you get that 0 initiation and then this someone cancels it on you because it's an illegal rate.

    1. It's must be nice to have so much money that you don't care about spending an extra $99-$128. If they don't like getting paid by commission, perhaps they should look for another job. And don't worry, commission is where these workers are making the bulk of their money. They still get some kind of salary/hourly rate. In addition, people who get paid by commission often have to negotiate deals. So they also beg for discounts or more money. I don't feel sorry at all. This is just the way business works - I apologize you can't understand that.

ps. I always tip people who are serving me 20%. Bite that!
