Sea-Tac's whimsical castle gate

Walking through Seattle-Tacoma airport two days ago, I saw an American Airlines gate "dressed up" to look like a castle. To board your plane, you enter through the castle's gate. With so many drab and humorless airports out there, it was a delight to see this whimsical design.

The credit for the castle, it turns out, goes to a group of American Airlines employees. According to a sign at the gate, the employees created the castle in 2008 in association with "Snowball Express," a project aimed at planning special trips for the children and spouses of military personnel who have died in service since 9/11.

If you want to see it, the gate is A9 at Sea-Tac.
